This signal box pre-dates the Grade II listed Edwardian station buildings by over 25 years and is a good example of a small mid-Victorian London, Brighton & South Coast Railway signal box. It was built in 1876 when the station was located on its original site opened in 1846 to the west of the existing station, fronting Station Road where the present-day Sainsbury's supermarket car park is. The station was then re-sited to the east in 1891 to face Devonshire Square before moving to its present location facing Sea Road in 1902. | This signal box pre-dates the Grade II listed Edwardian station buildings by over 25 years and is a good example of a small mid-Victorian London, Brighton & South Coast Railway signal box.
