Summary

Description
English: Inscription: The Picture Playhouse. The doors of this building (36/38 Western Road) first opened to the people of Bexhill in the early 1900s. Number 38 was then the Picture Playhouse - which the Duchess of Norfolk officially opened in 1921. In the mid 1970s, it was partly converted into a bingo club and later became the Redstack Playhouse. Number 36 is part of a group of properties - originally the Cinema de Luxe, which opened in 1913. It closed in 1921 when the owners built the Picture Playhouse next door. The old cinema was given an Art Deco façade in the 1930s and later became the Bexhill Observer's print works and offices. These premises were refurbished by J D Wetherspoon and opened July 2017.
