This attractive late Victorian lodge is all that remains of the vast Metropolitan Convalescence Home built in 1881 which was a key catalyst for the development of the town. Patients discharged from London hospitals came here to recuperate until its closure in 1970 and its most regrettable demolition in 1988. Half timbered gable, tile-hung first floor, lean-to porch canopy. | This attractive late Victorian lodge is all that remains of the vast Metropolitan Convalescence Home built in 1881 which was a key catalyst for the development of the town.
